Understand and Try to Build True Virility When Link Building.

I’ve been jiving on Marketing Pilgrim’s post 15 Things I Wish I Had Known When I Started as an Internet Marketer, specifically on the point of true virility in link building:

Understand and try to build true virility when link building.

True virility comes when you create something that is shared faster than it is abandoned. Your goal should be to engage users in a way that encourages or even incentivizes sharing. When you reach that magical point where more people are sharing your idea than abandoning it, you will see the true power of the Internet.

Virility on the Internet is a democratized form of omnipresence. Capturing the effects on Google Reader, say, is like a caged form of omniscience. It’s really impressive stuff. So if you’re in the link-building industry (marketing), remember link Building shouldn’t be tedious task, and shouldn’t be some automated function. True link building means creating wholly interesting, relevant articles. Purposeful content. That content will be shared because it has value.
