Google Reader Power Readers – New York Times Bias?

I’m a huge fan of Google Reader. Here’s my reading list (subscribe! :)

The official Gmail Blog compiled a list of “getting-started” Google Reader folks to follow. Is it just me, or is there a HUGE New York Times Bias in this list?

Are Newspapers Exploiting the People They Cover?

Is coverage of an event exploitation of it’s creators? Of course not.

Techdirt has been arguing for freedom of information and the distribution of information for some time. Some in the newspaper world have been taking offense at the idea since free information requires a drastic change in their publishing strategy. Some haven’t embraced that change, and have attacked “democratized information distributors” like Google. Claims have been made that “Google exploits the people they link to” (including democratized information). But if that’s the case, are newspapers exploiting the people they cover too? Coverage on techdirt, and a link to perhaps the most salient comment I’ve seen in the conversation.

I’ll go ahead and answer the question in the title. No. Excluding yellow journalism, newspapers aren’t exploiting the people they cover. Neither is Google (or other search engines).

Attention is not exploitation, regardless of medium.

obama yes!
